ABOUT US
Fairbairn Boys Club was founded in the late 1800’s by Lady Trowe in the Lea’s Hall, Canning Town,
for the underprivelaged children of the East End of London. Faibairn is actually a Scottish word meaning “good child”.
The Club moved to Fairbairn Hall in Barking road, Plaistow in 1923, where it flourished in all sports including Boxing, Football, Rugby and Cricket. Famous personalities to emerge through the Club are Billy Walker, Terry Spinks, Graham Gooch, Alan Curbishley, to name but a few.
Unfortunately in the mid 1980’s, Newham Council decided to close Fairbairn Hall. It was at this time that the Boxing section went alone and found their own premises. During this period, the Club produced numerous Schoolboy Champions and two ABA Champions. To date, Boxing is the only remaining sport that continues with the original Fairbairn name, club colours and emblem.
In 1994, due to various circumstances, Fairbairn Amateur Boxing Club had to finally close it’s doors.
It was at this time that Ruskin ABC was formed in Manor Park, East London. At the commencement of 1998/1999 Boxing season, Ruskin ABC changed its name back to the famous Fairbairn and moved premises to Ilford, Essex.

During the 2019/2020 Boxing season, Fairbairn Boxing Club were able to announce their change of gym premises to Manor Park, East London. Once again, we become the oldest Boxing Club in the London 2012 Olympic Games host Borough of Newham, a huge source of pride for all connected to
Fairbairn Boxing. We are back where we belong and look forward to working with our Partners and Sponsors, to help build and create a positive change in our local communities, through Sport and Boxing.
